The Theory of Everything (2014)

This is only the second film I have seen Eddie Redmayne in (the first was “Les Miserables”), but I had no idea he had this much talent. He is the main reason to see “The Theory of Everything” the story about the worldwide known genius Stephen Hawking.

Redmayne does not play Hawking so much as he is Hawking. It is a truly transformation into this brilliant man that I did not see Redmayne at all by the end. Props also should go out to Felicity Jones as his wife Jane, who has to care for her husband when he gets his disease (actually, to say she cares for him is an understatement).

There are some problems, however, with the film. I felt it could have been so much more, and feel that the filmmakers may have taken the wrong approach to it. I can’t put my finger on it, but the movie lacked excitement from the story and direction. It also seemed to go a little too long for me.

Still, I liked it enough because of the acting. Eddie Redmayne will be nominated for an Oscar. Mark my words.

Overall: 3 1/2 Stars ***1/2
